„THERE ARE NO CHILDREN, THERE ARE PEOPLE... CHILDREN'S RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS” [PL/EN] Venue: Centrum Dialogu im. Marka Edelmana (Marek Edelman Dialogue Center) | ul. Wojska Polskiego 83
2017 marks the 75h anniversary of one of the most tragic events in the history of WW2. In September 1942, the Nazis ordered that all children under the age of 10 must be deported from Litzmannstadt ghetto, since they were unable to work. Even though seventy five years have passed since that horrible action known as the Great Shpera, mankind has not drawn any conclusions from it. Despite appointing numerous international institutions with the purpose of protecting the youngest ones, their rights have been constantly violated.Wars have been going on in Syria and Ukraine; the situation in Asia is tense; children die from starvation in Africa. Young artists on the threshold of their creative careers, who start to determine their artistic standpoints – students and new graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Film School and the University of Łódź - were invited to co-create the exhibition. It is divided into two integral parts. The educational part, designed by Weronika Hrynkiewicz, a 2016 graduate of the Faculty of Graphics and Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, performs the informative function. The second part consists of individual artistic expressions – interpretations of chosen children's rights: Magdalena Franczuk, Małgorzat Pawlak, Ada Birecka, Angelika Korzeniowska, Agnieszka Kozi Kozłowska, Agata Wieczorek, Katarzyna Świstek. On the occasion of the „There are no children, there are people” exhibition, we want to talk about respecting and violating children's rights and human rights. We invite both children and adults for discussion and reflection. The exhibition is open everyday from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM

MAGDALENA WALCZAK „ABOUT THINGS WE HAVE LOST”
Magdalena Walczak's intention is to present the series of the intimate ceramic sculptures, which is named Things we have lost (Utraty). These 10 sculptures show the scenes of the common life of the children, living in the Łódź ghetto. The material basis for artist imaginary show were both the photographic and written historical documents, and the works of the literary fiction. Perhaps she should reserve, that the historical events are, first of all, the pretext for her imagination. She wouldn't just illustrate the historical facts with some moving figures. Rather, she wanted to show some experiences, connected with the living in the constant threat. The possibility of the showing of the life in ghetto as a common life is also attractive for Walczak, because she is living on the former ghetto's territory Magdalena Walczak – born in 1974. Graduate of Władysław Strzemiński's Fine Arts Academy in Lodz, has also acquired the doctorate in Jan Matejko's Fine Arts Academy in Cracow. She is an author and a co-author (with her husband, Marcin Mielczarek) of the numerous sculpture realisations in the Lodz city space. Magdalena Walczak is a laureate of an international competition to design the monument of Janusz Korczak, organized by the Shalom Foundation. She works is her own atelier in the Central Museum of the Textile Industry in Lodz
