Jidyszkajt - concert

jidyszkajt 5 BACKGROUND

On the 80th anniversary of the burning of Łódź synagogues, we invite you to a concert of Jewish songs, sung in homes and synagogues before the war, in completely new arrangements prepared by the band from Łódź – Jidyszkajt. We want to invite you for the concert on November 9, 2019 at 9.00 pm to Dialogue Center.

On the night of November 10-11, 1939, the Nazis demolished the synagogues in Łódź: Alte Szil (29. Wolborska St.), the Great Synagogue (1. Kościuszki Ave.) the Ezras Izrael Synagogue (6. Wólczańska St.), Ohel Jakow (18. Gdańska St.). The Wilker Shul Synagogue (56. Zachodnia St.) was destroyed in 1940. It was the beginning of the occupation in Łódź and the burning of synagogues became a symbol of the tragic fate of Jews in Łódź.

Jidyszkajt is a combination of Jewish tradition and modernity. A Jew from Łódź – Dawid Gurfinkiel in cooperation with professional musicians creates a new quality that will appeal to audiences of all ages.
The Jidyszkajt group’s repertoire includes both – Jewish religious songs and pre-war songs sung in Yiddish. They are presented in completely new, original arrangements.
Songs sung in Hebrew, Aramaic and Yiddish sound in a new style – in arrangements combining elements of jazz, rock and electronic music.
„Jidyszkajt” means Jewishness, the Jewish way of life but also the Jewish soul and that certainly characterizes this project.
The band’s debut concert took place in the only synagogue in Łódź that survived the war – the Reicher synagogue.

The band will be composed of:
Dawid Gurfinkiel - vocal
Marek Kądziela - guitar
Maciek Kądziela - saxophones
Marcin Zabrocki - keyboards
Piotr Gwadera – drums
