Dedication to the British king George VI, Łódź 1936. The first exclusive copy went to
the royal collection at Windsor Castle. St. George fighting the dragon – the patron
saint of England – has the Star of David on the shield and a menorah on the helmet.
At the bottom, under the Polish national emblem a group of Jewish exiles can be
seen, moving towards a castle with the sign "Zion"

In 1933, after Hitler had come to power and first
persecutions of Jews in Germany had begun, the artist
decided to focus his attention on the task of showing
the moment of greatest triumph of the Jews – a
moment when they were released from Egyptian
captivity and regained freedom. In his miniatures,
Artur Szyk showed the heroism of biblical heroes who,
despite adversity, thanks to the divine help, could
stand up to evil and win.
