The Marek Edelman Dialogue Center in Łódź

82 Anniversary of the Liquidation of the Litzmannstadt-Ghetto

The Mayor of Łódź, Hanna Zdanowska, cordially invites you to participate in the commemorations of the 82nd Anniversary of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto Liquidation. The official ceremony will take place on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Radegast Station.

August is a time of special remembrance for Łódź, honoring its former Jewish residents as well as Jews from across Poland and Europe who were forced into the closed district between 1940 and 1944. The symbolic date of August 29 serves as a reminder of the ghetto's tragic end. It was then, in August 1944, that the final transports carrying the last remaining residents of the Łódź ghetto—through which over 200,000 people had passed—were deported from Radegast Station to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp.

During this year's ceremony, Holocaust Survivors Leon Weintraub and Hana Svirsky will share their powerful testimonies. The event will feature a musical performance by the Children's Choir of the City of Łódź.

Accessibility:

  • The ceremony will be translated simultaneously into English on site.
