Ghetto  //  Walter Genewein’s slides
Walter Genewein’s slides
Print

In 1987 a few hundred colour slides from the Second World War  were found in one of the Vienna second-hand bookshops. They turned out to be slides from the Litzmannstadt Ghetto, taken by Walter Genewein - the main accountant of the Litzmannstadt Ghetto.

The picture of ghetto registered on those first in history colour slides became the basis for the film “The Photographer” by Dariusz Jabłoński. It is about extermination, presented from the German perspective. The film shows also a collision between the colourful slides and the ghetto’s reality by Arnold Mostowicz - Jewish doctor from the Litzmannstadt Ghetto.

Presented photographs come from collection of Museum of Łódź History.
